JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Instrument person

CLASSIFICATION: Survey Technician II

DEPARTMENT: County Engineer

DIVISION: Administration

SUPERVISOR: Party Chief

Definition/Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to assist in the surveying by operating various surveying equipment. This position requires calculation of non-complex nature. A person serving in this position will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Characteristic Work:
Assists Survey Party Chief by obtaining data pertinent to angles, elevation points, and contours. Operates surveying equipment to determine center lines of roads and bridges. Measures distances. Lays out sites for bridge and highway construction. Checks and maintains equipment. Prepare field notes. Clears sight line as required. locates property markers. May be required to perform calculations on office computer. May be required to perform other tasks such as monitoring project material quantities and quality, project inspection, etc., and acts as Party Chief in his absence. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. Course work in drafting helpful. Training in survey techniques and equipment. Four (4) yeas experience in surveying and instrument use. Ability to perform and comprehend mathematical calculations. Ability to use surveying tools such as level, transit, twenty second liez instrument and measuring device. Ability to prepare reports.
